The instructions are divided into three sections:

(1) Installation/Maintenance/Safety;

(2) Terminology/Technique and basic principles;

(3) Application

(1) INSTALLATION-MAINTENANCE-SAFETY

(1)   Be sure that your air source is off and there is no pressure in your air line

(2)   Connect filter/regulator/lubricator to your air line.  Connect foot pedal to filter/regulator/lubricator. Using the quick-connector, couple your foot pedal to the Power Saw. Familiarize yourself with the features and functions of various aspects and components of the unit.  (See description sheet).

(3)    Be sure that there is always oil in the oiler and no more than 90 pounds per square inch air pressure is used.

(4)    Using the regulator, reduce pressure to zero before adding oil to the lubricator.

(5)    Disconnect (uncouple) saw from foot pedal whenever changing saw frames and also for safety when changing blades.  (See Section 2 and 3).

(6)    Do not touch saw frame or saw blade when reciprocating (in operation).

(7)    Keep fingers, hands etc. safely away from the area where the cutting is occurring.

(8)    Avoid contact with reciprocating components (frame and blade) when in use

(9)   Operate saw only when it is in proper location: i.e., in the guide-track of the model.

(10)       Approved safety goggles and dust mask are required for user and other persons in area.

(11)       Use this tool in conjunction with an adequate dust collector.

(13) Do not use damaged or improperly working tool.  Have it repaired first.

 Always heed all safety precautions!!

(2) TERMINOLOGY-TECHNIQUE AND BASIC PRINCIPLES

Although it is a reciprocating saw, you still need to manually stroke the saw for two reasons:

(A)     To allow the dust in the saw cut to be removed.  Dust accumulation will slow down the cutting process.

(B)     Extends blade life by using the entire blade instead of just a small section of it.

As with a manual saw, there are two terms that need to be understood for optimum performance: ie, the cutting stroke and the relief stroke.  If the teeth of the blade are pointing towards the handle, the pulling stroke will be the cutting stroke and the pushing stroke will be the relief stroke.  If the teeth are pointing away from the handle the opposite will be true.  As the blade moves in the same direction as the teeth are pointing, cutting occurs..

In summery: Optimum cutting occurs when the saw teeth can bite in and the dust between the saw teeth and the cut can be removed.

(3) APPLICATION

Once you have read and understood the previous instructions:, practice cutting on an old model.

(1)   Use approved safety goggles and dust mask.

(2)   Secure model in vise.  Rotate and lock vise at desired location.

(3)   Take note of the direction of saw teeth (*Section 2) and start with teeth pointing towards the handle.  Later you may want to reverse the blade to determine what works best for you.

(4)   Start cut as you would if using a manual saw:  Create a groove or a Guide Track that the blade can follow.

(5)   With saw blade in the groove, start saw by depressing foot pedal lightly at first. As saw will start to cut push and pull saw handle with a slow rhythmic stroking motion.

(6) To make radius cuts, repeat steps (1) thru (5), with saw still reciprocating, slowly rotate handle to the right or left as desired.  Trying to make a sharp angle cut, or rotating handle too fast, may cause the blade to bind.

IN ADDITION: (please note):

Note: be observant regarding the variations that will effect the cutting action:  different die stones, moisture content of the model; different blades, direction of teeth. (See previous text).

Note and observe variations of the stroking action.  One example would be a rocking or arcing motion in which the handle is raised a little  and then lowered a little from its horizontal position as you are pushing and pulling the saw. This sometimes allows more dust to be removed, enhancing the cutting.

(As previously stated, optimum cutting occurs when the saw teeth can bite in and the dust between the saw teeth and the cut can be removed).

COMPONENT PARTS (SEE DIAGRAM)

(C)   On-Off air switch.  If saw is not reciprocating as fast as it should, check to be sure switch is at its most forward position. (towards saw frame).  Do not rely on this switch to shut the saw off as it can easily be unintentionally slid to its “ON” position.

*NOTE:* Disconnecting the Power-Saw/quick-coupler is the only positive way of preventing unintentional reciprocating action.

To change saw frames, be certain saw is disconnected from air source.  (See* above).  Using wrench provided, loosen set screw (B).  Remove unwanted frame (A).  Next insert desired frame as pictured.  Retighten set screw.  Use sufficient tightening pressure.

To change saw blades, be certain saw is disconnected from air source.  (See* above).  Use one hand to compress the saw frame and the other to insert blade, pointing teeth in the direction of choice.

**Because there are so many different die systems on the market, it may be necessary for you to contact us so that we may advise you how to best use our product.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:

Remember: Use Approved Safety Goggles, Dust Mask and Dust Collecting System, this applies to the user and all persons in the area.
